Description
If you just want to bag
Mine Peak, the
Mine Peak trail is the way to go. But having come all this way, you might as well arrive early and make an adventure out of it by running part way up
Canyon Sin Nombre, approaching
Mine Peak from the north on this trail, and completing the loop on the
Mine Peak trail. The views, particularly of the Carrizo Badlands to the north, are fantastic.
There is no official trail and certainly no signage. Your exact route through the washes and mud hills may vary. The key to this run is to reach the correct point, 0.5 miles before the peak, in order to ascend a steep ramp directly to the finish. This is best done by ascending to ridge about 1.2 miles from the finish from which you can see your goal, even though you'll lose a bit of vertical gain along the way.
Once you've reached the summit, you can either head back the way you came, or finish via the
Mine Peak trail if you came up
Canyon Sin Nombre to start this trail, completing a nice loop.
