Runner Notes
One of the draws to this glade is the abundance of reptiles like the collared lizards and the area is also good for snakes, including timber rattlesnakes and copperheads. This is generally true of any Ozark run, so just watch your step.
Description
Take the gravel access road to Stegall Mountain glade and fire tower. The parking area is located at the gate, and the trail starts across the gate. Grass may be high on the trail in the summer, but it leads to great views and access to a great section of the Ozark Trail. The trail is well maintained (thanks Ozark Trail Association!!). Once on the OTC, you can run as far as you like in either direction.
Flora & Fauna
Collared lizards and other reptiles. Prairie Warblers, Indigo Buntings, Tanagers, Pine Warblers. Compass plant, coneflowers and spiderworts. Peck Ranch is where elk have been reintroduced to Missouri. You might see them here or watch for signs for the route of the elk driving tour.
