Features Views

Mountain bikes and 4-wheel-drive vehicles are allowed in the park on the backcountry roads. In order to protect yourself and the surrounding ecosystem, mechanical travel is restricted to established roads. Tracks on open desert can remain for years and damages the desert ecosystem while tarnishing the experience for subsequent visitors. Off-road vehicles and all-terrain vehicles may not be used in the park.

Description

The dirt roads in Covington Flat provide access to a number of the park’s largest Joshua trees, junipers, and pinyon pines.

From the junction with the California Riding and Hiking Trail and the Covington Flats Crossover Road, this road heads up the southeast side of Eureka Peak, the fifth tallest peak in the park. This road is steep near the end, but the top offers views of Palm Springs, the surrounding mountains, and the Morongo Basin.

Access the Eureka Peak Trail and the Eureka Peak Summit Spur to reach the summit a few hundred yards to the north from the end of the road.
