Runner Notes
The wide, flat, and well-maintained track makes for a great run.
Description
This section of the Abel Tasman is simply a climb to the Gibbs Hill saddle and an easy descent from the saddle to the Wainui car park. Most of the climb from Whariwharangi is through more dense underbrush on a wide, well-maintained trail that is cut into the hillside.
From saddle, you'll descend steadily along a doubletrack that ducks in and out of the foliage, and you'll be treated to some final outstanding views of the coast before the trail ends at the Wainui car park.
Flora & Fauna
Weka (lots of them!), possums, and glow worms! Head out at dusk or dark along the track and look for the glow worms in the denser underbrush near water along the embankments.
