Description
Caterpillar is a multi-use trail starting near the
White Rabbit Trail. It features a gentle grade up to Caterpillar Crossing where it meets
Red Queen and crosses the Jabberwocky mountain bike trail and proceeds uphill through several switchback turns to eventually top out at the entrance to Lewis Loops Trails, whereupon it rolls down to Lamb Saddle.
The adjacent bike trail, Lizard, constructed in 2016, removed most of the downhill cyclist traffic on the part of Caterpillar between Caterpillar Crossing and
Lewis Loops: Gyre and
Lewis Loops: Gimble. However, the rest of Caterpillar may have bikes traveling in the up or downhill direction.
The trail is wide and features some large ponderosas. Caterpillar is part of the Creek to Crest trail. Caterpillar can be part of loops including Lewis Loops, FS Road 2060, Toothpick and other trails.
Flora & Fauna
