Description
Spring Branch Trail is a 0.8-mile trail located in Mastodon State Historic Site. The trail substrate is packed gravel. The trail winds through young bottomland woods where it follows Rock Creek for a short period. The hill on the south side of the creek has numerous interesting forest flowers in the spring.
The summer brings crowds of people wading in the creek here. Sadly, the swimmers often do not follow Leave No Trace principles, and a great deal of trash can be found along the banks of the creek.
If you want to continue your time on trail, take the
Limestone Hill Connector to reach a few more miles of trail on the
Limestone Hill Trail.
Flora & Fauna
The trees found in the bottomland woods include sycamores, cottonwoods, box elders, and hackberries. The occasional pawpaw can also be found by those with a keen eye.
