Description
From the parking area at the Vista Point exit off of Highway 101, run toward the old bridge over the gully and turn left just before you reach the bridge along the path that pops up here. Then, cross the railroad tracks before you start to descend on steps below the railroad bridge that are made of concrete. You'll quickly pop out on the beach where the Arroyo Hondo Creek reaches the Pacific.
Following the beach, head up the coast (to the west) among rocky outcroppings and tiny coves. You could very well have the beach to yourself as there are usually very few people along this stretch of coast. Eventually you'll come across a stretch of rocky shoreline that lasts for about 100 yards. After running over this section, you'll arrive at San Onofre Beach, which serves as the end point for the Coastal Trail.
