Description
The Overlook Trail is steep and, in some sections, very rocky, but it is easy to follow and can be done as an out-and-back or added to the
Fishkill Ridge Trail.
From the parking area, follow the trail marked with red blazes. It starts off gradually climbing but quickly goes uphill steeply until you reach a trail junction with the access trail to Malouf's Mountain Campground. Stay on the trail with the red blazes as it evens out a bit until the trail crosses a stream (this may be dry during the summer months).
After crossing the stream, the trail actually descends before it begins the steepest section with two very good viewpoints over the Hudson Valley. These are good places to take a break from the steep ascent.
The trail levels out again as it passes through a nice patch of blueberries. Eventually, it will end into the
Fishkill Ridge Trail near another lovely viewpoint.
You can turn back the way you came or add on the loop around
Fishkill Ridge Trail to extend your time in the woods.
