This short paved loop heads northeast away from the visitor center to pass the Great Grave and a seasonal teepee before it steeply climbs the bluff to reach the Whitman Memorial. At the top, a gated obelisk stands at the edge of the hill as a monument to the Whitman's who died in the "Whitman Killings" in 1847.
Runners can look down across lawns and fields that make up the site as well as to the rolling foot hills of the area. The paved path continues around the hill to eventually switchback down to access the Oregon Trail Path and then cut back along the base of the bluff through a narrow grove of cottonwoods that surround Doan Creek.
