Description
The Stone Bride Nature Trail is a 0.7-mile loop trail located within Detroit's Rouge Park. The trailhead is located on Tireman Ave just east of Outer Drive. Renovated during the summer of 2016, the trail is in great shape and has very few, if any, obstacles to climb over/avoid which makes this trail great to take children to explore. Interpretive signs along the trail provide interesting facts about the Rouge Park environment.
The Stone Bridge Nature Trail is named after a very old bridge that the trail crosses over. A seasonal creek runs underneath the bridge called "Al's Creek," named after a volunteer who actively monitors and cares for the creek.
There are a couple places where the trail has stairs made from natural resources from the woods, but the terrain is still easy to run. Note that the slope can be slippery when wet.
This trail offers multiple opportunities for photography. The bridge, stairs, and the Rouge River are prime spots to get beautiful photos.
While running this trail, you may see deer muskrat, great blue herons, wood ducks, and maybe even a coyote if you are lucky!
Stone Bridge Nature Trail is truly a hidden escape to the beautiful outdoors right in your backyard without having to leave the city.
