Overview
After a steep initial climb, this loop rewards runners with awesome undulating singletrack through wildflowers and waterfalls.
Need to Know
Bring R40 cash for the gate. There is a parking lot and small cafe at the Jonkershoek Gate (where you pay the entry fee) where you can park. If there is water in the streams on the mountain it is perfectly safe to drink and absolutely delicious; however, in the dry summer months the rivers do dry up.
Description
After a steep initial climb through mountain bike switchbacks, the trail peaks and takes you onto some beautiful undulating contours along the southwestern slopes of Jonkershoek Valley.
You'll cross a river and then come to the start of a short, switchback climb to the old fire hut. Once past the fire hut, the singletrack continues and takes you through indigenous mountain forest, waterfalls, and more wildflowers until you reach the base of
Swartboskloof. Turn left, almost back on yourself, and head back down the valley, along the river, and back to the jeep track. At the jeep track, turn right and follow the road back to the gate.
