Overview
One of the more popular running routes to the summit of Mount Monadnock. Though the upper part gets steeper, the views are well worth the effort.
Need to Know
Much of the trail is in the shade, and the rocks/boulders can be slippery. Trekking poles are a big help on this run. The views from the top are spectacular on a clear day!
Description
This simple to follow route starts at the Old Halfway House parking lot on Route 124 in Jaffrey, NH.
Start your journey using the
Old Halfway House Trail just above the gate at the end of the parking lot. The trail ascends a moderate grade up a ridge then levels out for a bit. About 1.2 miles into your run, you'll reach the junction of the
Old Halfway House Trail and
White Arrow Trail. A right onto
White Arrow Trail will take you to the site of the Halfway House. To continue on the route as mapped, take left onto
White Arrow Trail.
The
White Arrow Trail has steep and rocky sections but is manageable. However, rocky slabs may be very slippery when wet, so use caution. At approximately 1.7 miles into your run, you'll pass by the Cross Amphitheater Trail. Stay on the
White Arrow Trail as other trails merge onto the path for the final ascent to the summit. Enjoy the great views from the top!
