Dogs Off-leash
Description
The Yakima Mine Trail is a lightly maintained route that provides a nice remote and primitive experience. There are a number of intact old mining structures along the route, so it is a nice run accompanied by a trip back in history to the days of the 1860 gold mining rush around Florence.
You'll start in some open pine forest and will be on a lot of sidehills. As you leave the pine forest and approach the Milner Trail you'll need to keep your eyes out for the correct trail. There can be a lot of grazing activity in the area so don't be tempted by that goat path. The trail is perched on the side of the mountain side with a long way down to go, so make sure you stay focused. There are quite a few rocky sections once you leave the forest.
Connect this trail with the Milner Trail and the
Lower Salmon River Trail to make a great loop and throw in a visit to the Cable Car Hot Springs.
