Description
This is one of the better singletrack trails in the Buffalo Creek System. While this trail can be done in either direction, most prefer to access the trail from the east, while traveling west on the Colorado Trail from the
Little Scraggy Trail. In fact some call this trail a loop when in fact you must combine a short section of the Colorado Trail to formally make a loop.
Traveling west on the Colorado Trail, pick up the
Green Mountain Trail. Nice hard-pack singletrack climbs quickly through a thick and shady forest for 1.75 miles. Just before the summit the climb becomes steep and then flattens at the trail's summit.
The climb is aerobically challenging and many folks like to stop and rest a bit at the summit. From there, the trail dives through forest, meadow and aspen grove, crossing over a couple moderately challenging rocky areas. This downhill section of trail is especially beautiful in the fall when the aspens turn golden.
Soon after, you pop out of the forest into the Meadows Group Campground, look for more singletrack off to your right. Cross a small creek and continue to descend down to a junction with the Colorado Trail.
