Description
Starting in the west and running east, the first half is generally flat, following the valley floor. Users will experience a wide mix of surfaces, from well-packed desert earth, to loose sand, gravel, and loose on loose gnarl, along with areas with big, sharp, well-anchored boulders.
The trail becomes indistinct in several areas. Efforts to clarify the trail includes placing rock cairns to guide runners where the trail is not obvious. Keep your eyes open for these helping guides.
As you head east, the trail climbs up to the eastern ridge where it connects with Champagne. As with all of the west to east runs, you'll face some demanding climbs over loose and deeply eroded trails. The payback comes once you climb out of the valley. Your reward is awesome views in all directions as you leave the rutted and eroded trails behind. And it's all downhill from here!
