This trail system is in a multiuse National Forest area. During hunting seasons, primarily deer and turkey (spring), you should wear BLAZE ORANGE. All forest users are expected to wear blaze during hunting seasons. There are not a lot of hunters in this area but there are some. A blaze vest or shirt ensures your visibility. Rangers are emphatic that all trail users need to comply with this safety rule.

Description

Rabbits Run begins on the Walker Woods Rd directly across from the end of Beaver Lodge Trail and ends on Lost Cemetery very close the the Steel Bridge that crosses the Noxubee River. This mostly flat trail was cleared by Boy Scouts in the spring of 2009. The first half goes through a young pine plantation that is still very dense with under growth, prime rabbit habitat.

The trail crosses an interesting sunken road and the remainder of the trail is on an open grassy area and then in mature pine forest. The sunken nature of the road suggests that it is very old and probably one of the orginal roads in this area. Exploration to the south on the old road will reveal an old house site and remenants of an old bridge across the river.

At the end of the trail turn right to continue across the steel bridge to the rest of the trail system. A left turn follows Lost Cemetery Rd to its terminus at Walker Wood Rd.
