Description
Lower
Hotel Trail is basically a flat trail along the east edge of the San Felipe Creek wetlands. Here, the San Felipe Creek flows through a broad flat valley. The creek is surrounded by wetlands on both sides in this valley. This trail runs next to the wetlands with outstanding views of the lush wetlands, as well as the gorgeous surrounding hills of Joseph D. Grant County Park.
Lower
Hotel Trail is found at the 0.9 mark along
Hotel Trail.
Hotel Trail climbs higher above the wetalnds, as Lower
Hotel Trail veers right (south) following a San Felipe Creek tributary downstream towards the wetlands.
Barn Trail, that crosses San Felipe Creek, is passed on the right at the 0.3 mile mark. After
Barn Trail, Lower
Hotel Trail veers left/southeast and continues along the broad lush wetland valley of San Felipe Creek, that is to the right of the trail.
Corral Trail where Lower
Hotel Trail ends, is reached after a total of 1.0 miles. For those hiking Lower
Hotel Trail in the opposite direction than shown here, the Lower
Hotel Trail/
Corral Trail junction is unmarked, but watching the map closely, this junction is rather obvious as both these trails are the only wide doubletrack dirt paths in this area.
Flora & Fauna
Grass hills, green in the spring, and golden in the summer and fall, to the northeast. Wetlands to the southwest, with grass and forested hills rising in the distance beyond the wetlands.
