Need to Know
The trailhead leaves from NH Rhododendron State Park. An entrance fee is collected when the park is staffed.
Description
This trail begins from the parking area at Rhododendron State Park. During the off season the main lot may be closed and you'll need to park a bit further away from the trailhead, closer to the cabin.
The trail begins by going through a pretty cool area of Rhododendrons for about 0.1 miles or so. Come in mid-July to see the Rhododendrons bloom. The trail then bears to the right at a fork with the
Rhododendron Loop Trail and continues along mostly flat terrain with some slight incline areas here and there for the next seven tenths of a mile.
The trail begins a more serious climb at about 0.8 miles. You'll tackle three main steep sections to reach the end of the trail. The second section follows a rock wall for a short period before crossing over it and becoming flat again. The third and final steep section takes you to the intersection with the
Metacomet - Monadnock Trail: NH Section.
Travel 0.25 miles to the south along the
Metacomet - Monadnock Trail: NH Section to reach the summit of Little Monadnock. All in it's about 1.6 miles and 700ft of elevation gain to the summit. If you're looking for better views consider traveling north along the
Metacomet - Monadnock Trail: NH Section for a couple tenths of a mile to the viewpoint.
Flora & Fauna
Incredible groves of rhododendrons during the first 0.2 miles of trail.
