Description

This trail offers great views of the Neuse River with lots of tree information signs all around and benches to sit and have a rest.

The park has a cool historical town you can run through before 5:00 pm and a visitor center with a lot of information on the history of the local area as well as artifacts from the Civil War. There are restrooms at the visitor center, as well as next too the back parking lot. There is also a graveyard next to the middle intersection of the Blue/Yellow/Orange trails.

From the visitor center, head south out of the parking lot and follow the Orange Trail west. After only about 0.2 mile, you'll pass two interactions with the Red Trail which heads south along the Neuse River. At the next intersection, stay straight to continue on this loop as mapped. This will take you along the eastern side of the loop. The Blue Trail, shortly followed by the Yellow Trail will split off to the left as you stay on the Orange Trail.

The trail turns left and heads towards the Neuse River. As it turns to parallel the water, the Yellow Trail rejoins and there will be a nice viewpoint. Continue south, the Blue Trail will also rejoin from the left. As the trail truths east, at the main intersection, again stay straight. Eventually the trail will follow Old Waynesborough Road east, back to the parking lot.

Flora & Fauna

Lots of different trees that aren’t just pine trees.
