There are numerous narrow, technical singletracks that descend from this road towards Aviemore.

It begins in the north at General Wade's Military Road as a wide and easy gravel road. Between the two intersections with High Burnside Middle Forest Road, the Upper Road becomes a doubletrack much of the way and there is a bit of a steep climb/descent. A short distance past the second intersection with the Middle Road, it again becomes an easy gravel road until the terminus at the High Burnside Lower Forest Road near Aviemore.

You'll definitely want a map or the Trail Run Project mobile app for the area as there are a number of singletracks and spur roads that branch off from the Upper Road and it would be easy to get temporarily lost. If in doubt, head downhill until the Lower Road and follow it to Aviemore.
