Do not cross the fence into Taos Pueblo Reservation Land.

Description

The route starts from Capulin Road (FSR 10) / Shadow Mountain Road. It can also be accessed from Cauplin Road (FSR 10AA) and the Capulin Road Extension about one mile further up.

The trail follows old logging roads that contour near the boundary with the Taos Pueblo Reservation Land before connecting to a surprisingly fun, if challenging, singletrack that descends to the Devisadero Loop Trail #108.

There are no signs along the logging roads, and signs along the singletrack are few and far between. In particular, about five miles in, the trail disappears almost completely as it descends a scrambly ridge that desperately needs switchbacks. After this section, there is a series of long switchbacks that are easy to follow (once you've reached them).

Although this is an official FS trail, it more resembles a goat track at times. Route-finding skills and a GPS are a must, keep the Trail Run Project mobile app handy for on-trail navigation. Bear, coyote and rumors of wolves abound.

Many run this as an out-and-back from the backside of the Devisadero Loop Trail #108.
