The trail begins at the parking lot near the observatory. Head to the south side of the parking lot and take the trail on your right (closer to the road). The trail follows the edge of a prairie for the first 0.5 miles or so before dipping into the forest. Cross State Park Lane and continue forward. The trail meanders through more prairie before entering the forest for a more extended stretch. When you come to the fork, take the left fork to stay on the Turkey Hollow Trail; take the right fork to access the Homestead Picnic Area. The trail continues through the forest for another mile or so before crossing State Park Lane again. Cross the road and enter the prairie. Follow the trail through the prairie for the last 0.5 miles or so before coming back to the trailhead.
