The trailhead is located in the Homestead Campground near the bathrooms. The trail runs roughly parallel to State Park Lane for most of its course. When you come to the first fork, take the right fork to access the park entrance building; take the left fork to stay on the trail. At the second fork, take the right fork to access the parking lot near the observatory; take the left fork to stay on the trail. Continue until you come near a residential building. Here, the trail crosses State Park Lane and ends where the trail intersects the Walnut Springs Trail.
