The beginning of the trail is fairly narrow and cuts through denser vegetation. After 200 yards, the steep ascent begins. At 0.4 miles, you reach a smaller ridge with good views across the San Leandro Watershed. The ascent continues and the trail zigzags up the ridge. At 0.8 miles you'll have another smaller ridge on your left before you reach the grassy top of Rocky Ridge and join Rocky Ridge View Trail.
