This statue of Sam Houston is so Texan that you'd almost think it was sarcastic. The visitor center even calls it "the world's tallest statue of an American hero" as if there would be a taller statue of an American somewhere outside of America/Texas. The statue itself is 67 feet high and stands on a 10-foot-high granite base. It can be clearly seen from Interstate 45 near the top of a small hill.
The trail is very short and easy. You can find it from the southern end of a parking lot at the visitor center. Continue past the visitor center through the tall pines along a wide gravel-fill pathway. There are a few benches along the path. The final part of the trail circles the statue and is made of paving stones. You'll be able to hear I-45 the whole time, and see cars zipping by for most of the path.
