Description

City Creek is a winding trail that dips gently down/up canyons, around rock formations, and has great views of town and the surrounding area. It is generally protected from the road noise and feel more "out there" than it really is. Also, it has a great mix of rock/sand surface. It can be done as an out-and-back or connected to part of Owen's Loop and back to the start along Red Hills Pkwy bike route for a paved, more gentle (but more noisy) finish (5.1 mile loop City Creek-Owen's Loop-Red Hills Pkwy).

This trail feels significantly easier to me done in the north/west direction because of the way the rock under foot is fractured. When running in the south/east direction, it is fractured and jutting out at an angle toward you—making for slightly more tricky footwork.

The only rather difficult bit is around the middle section of the trail where it gets very curvy, and you have to dip steeply down into the canyon. This small section has loose rocks and should be approached slowly.

All-in-all, this is the best way to enjoy a quiet trail with great views and without driving far.
