Description
Starting in the parking lot, head to the back corner and enter the forest. After 0.25 miles, you'll cross Edwards Mill Road and continue on. Re-enter the forest and after another 0.25 miles you'll come upon a double tunnel under the highway. The creek runs through the left tunnel, and you'll cross on the lighted side on the right. The far side is a bit tricky as you should look for a rope to help you balance your way across the edge of the creek.
From here, you are in Carl Schenck Memorial Forest and the trail follows the creek through some lowlands that certainly get quite wet when it rains. The trail gets a little braided here but as long as you stay within sight of the creek you won't lose your way.
Cross Reedy Creek Road and go right where you meet up with the
Reedy Creek Trail for a short while. Peel off left and border Richland Lake. Weave your way through some open green space and head into the forest. The trail soon ends at the William B. Umstead State Park where it connects to the
Loblolly Trail.
