Description
The Split Rock Trail (marked with blue blazes) has a start/end point on the two sections of the
Four Birds Trail, on the north end of Splitrock Reservoir and the other on the south end. The trail can be accessed from the Split Rock Reservoir Boat Launch and then heading down Split Rock Road to the power lines.
From the north end of the trail, the terrain is rocky as it leaves Misty Pond. It begins to ascend through glacier erratics to a viewpoint called "Indian Cliffs." The trail follows the ridge and gradually descends rocky terrain as it approaches Split Rock Reservoir. The trail can be difficult to follow at times. Be sure you can spot the next marker.
The trail exits onto Split Rock Road near a track of power lines. Ascend the power line road for a short distance and watch for a sign on the right marking the trail as it leaves the power line. This section is very difficult. It is extremely rocky and difficult to follow. It meanders quite a bit and eventually drops down along Beaver Brook. Turn right and follow the trail (shared with the
Righter Mine Trail (green markers).
Watch for the trail to turn left and cross Beaver Brook on a small wood bridge. The trail follows the brook on the opposite side until it begins to ascend again on rocky terrain. The trail ends on the
Four Birds Trail.w
