Overview
The Montrose Bird Sanctuary has multiple points of entry and several paths that meander and connect throughout the natural setting. Once you step into the sanctuary it doesn't feel like you're in the city anymore. You can stay within the nature area or add on a nice extension to the end of the Montrose Pier. There is beach grass, sand, trees, and many types of birds. When you get close to the water, the view of the Chicago skyline is one of the best I have seen! It's a great treat to have this in the city.
Runner Notes
I have not seen many runners here as the trails are narrow and not very long. Runners could run along the lake though.
Description
Starting from the street parking across from the marina, jump on the
Inner Loop to begin you journey through the park. From here, you can either follow the loop to its junction with the
Outer Loop, or create your own adventure—it's impossible to get lost. Soak up the scenery, great lake views, and the opportunities to view birds, and when you're done, simply follow the loop back to your car.
Flora & Fauna
Squirrels, many types of birds.
