Trails are closed in the winter for mule deer protection (Dec 1 - April 1). Please respect this closure to keep these trails open to all the rest of the year.
Runner Notes
Look out for rattlesnakes in the summer months. Grasses can be long and scratchy, so long socks recommended. Tumbleweeds can also be found, so there's a good chance to work on your jumping legs! The area can be hot and dry during the summer with little shade from the sun. You can see many of the trails for a good distance, making navigation fairly easy.
Description
Park at the bottom of
Horselake Road, just past where the pavement turns to dirt. Start at the signed trailhead behind where you've parked, and start with a gentle quarter mile-ish climb up through the area's sagebrush. Keep an eye out for mule deer as you start to follow the trail weaving in and out of the the folds in the Sage Hills trails. This is an easy to follow trail that comes to a "T". Follow your path back to the car or continue on to create a myriad of trail combinations throughout the rest of the Sage Hills network.
Flora & Fauna
Mule deer, rattlesnakes, balsamroot flowers.
