Description

Bacon Trail runs alongside the Aptos Creek Fire Road. This is a very different trail than the fire road—this trail is narrow singletrack through dense vegetation, and most significantly, it runs along the top of the ridge where the fire road runs on the hillside just below the ridgeline. This means many more views on this trail, including views to the Pacific Ocean, surrounding Santa Cruz Mountains, and a great view of Santa Rosalia Mountain. This is a fun trail.

Bacon Trail starts and ends at unmarked trail junctions along Aptos Creek Fire Road. From its start at mile 7.1 of Aptos Creek Fire Road, Bacon Trail immediately climbs to the ridge top through the dense vegetation. From here, it winds along the ridge top with many short ups and downs. Some of these ups and downs are very steep. This trail sees less use, and in places is quite faint, but it is alway there. It is best to be comfortable with trail finding to run this trail. From its perch on the ridge top, this trail offers wonderful views and sunshine. The effort to run it is well worth it.

After 1.8 miles, Bacon Trail ends at mile 9.1 along Aptos Creek Fire Road, very near the Aptos Creek Fire Road/Ridge Trail junction.

Flora & Fauna
