Description
There are a few steep grades with some tight switchbacks, but otherwise this is a fun almost year-round singletrack challenge. The trail leads through woods with some views, alternating between steep and sometimes rocky sections and smooth singletrack.
From Big Eddy Recreation Site, the trail starts with steep tight switchbacks that move uphill and over water bars. This is followed by a steep and rocky descent to the first bridge. You could almost call this first half mile the entrance exam, because it's really the most difficult spot, though there are several other isolated obstacles on the trail.
There are many camping spots and swimming spots if you run the trail in warm weather. Near the northern end, there is a sustained climb leading to a long downhill on overgrown logging road down into final mile of technical singletrack ending shortly after it crosses Freeman Creek.
Runners could shuttle cars to the end to make the run just under 9 mi, or turn around and enjoy it in reverse, because it's a unique experience in reverse.
This trail will get better the more we have folks running it, so hope to get the word out, thanks!
