Description
Seattlelites looking for a little bit of nature right in their own backyards can enjoy this lovely gravel trail that runs along Ravenna Creek from Cowen Park to Ravenna Park. There are multiple neighborhood entry points to the main trail which runs the length of Ravenna Ravine (elevation gain 115 feet, 0.9 miles long).
A great starting place is from just behind the zipline at Cowen Park where you'll drop down into the ravine and cross underneath the 15th Avenue overpass. As this is an urban park, this is not the most scenic portion of the trail, but as you continue along, you'll quickly feel like the city is fading away. Enjoy the sounds of the babbling creek as you proceed along the 0.5 mile main trail.
Expect to see dog walkers, trail runners, bikers and families with little ones exploring the flora and fauna. Multiple spur trails criss-cross the ravine, making for more than 4.5 total miles of trail to explore. Both Cowen and Ravenna Park include play areas and ball fields.
Flora & Fauna
Maple, Douglas fir, Western Hemlock, and red cedar. Tulips and daffodils bloom in the spring and summer. Fauna include sparrows, seagulls, finches, and murders or crows, not to mention urban squirrels.
