Description
In August 2017 this trail was a continuation of the
Yellow Blaze Trail, but the yellow blazes have since been repainted orange.
The Orange Blaze Trail starts at Reservoir Rd to the west of where the
Yellow Trail ends and heads into the woods where it meets the
White Blaze Trail. From the
White Blaze Trail, the Orange Blaze Trail heads uphill, slowly climbing and winding its way up. It passes a good-sized swamp on the right (which is not visible when the bushes are leafed out) before doing a 180. Shortly after the 180, you'll see a large rock outcropping on the left. Leave the trail and climb this for a good view to the west overlooking Point View Reservoir. In the distance, you can see the Ramapo Mountains, and if you look carefully, you'll see a cut in the mountainside and trucks on I-287.
The trail continues on past this overlook to Franklin Cove and Buttermilk Falls and finally terminates at Scioto Drive in Franklin Lakes. Along the way it intersects with the Blue Blazed Trail, which heads to the far western sections of High Mountain Preserve.
