Much of the trail is on loose sand, which will increase the workout.
Description
The beginning of the trail, when traveling from east to west, follows a sandy wash. While it is not difficult, the loose sand is harder for hiking, trail running, or mountain biking than firmer soil. After a short while, the path takes a turn up the slope and gives great views of The Quarry at La Quinta Golf Club.
Then the trail returns to a sandy wash for a short while and begins a climb through the pass to the La Quinta Cove. The top of the La Quinta Cove is widely used by dog walkers, mountain bikers, and runners. While the first part of the trail should be relatively peaceful and quiet, the top of the cove will have more activity.
