Sometimes hunters will set traps along this trail during hunting season, but will likely leave a note at the trail junction. Be cautious!
Description
This trail starts at the junction with Judge Rye Rd. and extends southeast to its end at Crooked Run Road. The North Mountain Trail follows the ridge line its entire length and there is not a whole lot of elevation change. The trail starts at the junction with
Laurel Run Trail. After a little under 0.75 mile on the North Mountain Trail, you'll come upon a white-blazed trail that will take you to a lookout. This is a nice spot in the run to sit and enjoy lunch. It offers the best views that you'll have on the trail, so take some time here. As you continue on the trail you'll pass
Stack Rock Trail and Falls
Ridge Trail along the second climb, about two miles in.
There aren't any other intersections along the length of this so it should be easy to stay on the trail. It's mostly dirt singletrack but can be quite rocky in some sections, so watch your step. There are some nice views of the valley interspersed along this 6.4 mile trail. Though there isn't much over elevation gain, there is some climbing as the trail rolls along the crest of the ridge.
