Description
Parking is very limited at the trailhead, but there are some parking options a few hundred meters in either direction along the two lane Mount Cargill Road.
Most of this trail is hidden in canopy and not very interesting but the views at and near the top make up for the somewhat dull journey. The trail begins with steep sections that I suspect could get very muddy after rain; after a little less than 0.5 miles the grade eases up to a more moderate grade. Right about the time the grades eases, you'll reach the Organ Pipes, a cool rock feature (columnar basalt). The trail continues climbing though up mostly moderate grades to the summit of Mount Cargill where you'll have great views!
We only encountered locals on the trail; it seems to be a New Years Day tradition for some.
