Description
The Maui Skyline Trail is a moderate to difficult out-and-back trail. The trailhead is near the Haleakala Visitor Center in Haleakala National Park. The trail starts at 10,000 feet of elevation and drops to around 7,200 feet. The terrain is mostly loose volcanic rock.
Temperature changes can be drastic, and you may be in or above the clouds depending on the time of day and season. Mountain bikes are also allowed on the trail. There are some connector trails on the west end of the trail. But to get back to the start, you must return on the Skyline Trail. Be prepared to regain the elevation that you lost on the way to the end of this one, as it's a climb to get back to the trailhead.
Flora & Fauna
There are some small shrubs. The landscape is mostly barren volcanic rock.
