Runner Notes
This is a great trail to get in some mileage without having to deal with cars.
Description
This paved trail is mixed use and a great way to run through town and over the Narrows Bridge! Starting from S 25th Street (near the Sprague exit and Allenmore Golf Course, the trail heads west above Highway 16. While the initial portion of this trail is fairly urban and not especially scenic, there are moments of greatness as you pass Snake Lake Park and the edge of Fircrest.
As the trail nears 6th Avenue, it loses its evergreen surroundings but gains access to something far more valuable: some of the best donuts in Tacoma at Pao's Donut and Coffee Shop. This place serves up deliciously doughy dreams starting at 6am every day. Needless to say, wear your stretchy pants and get excited! (To find Pao's, peel off of the trail near the Narrows Park N Ride and head east on 6th until you see it on the corner of 6th and N Howard Street.)
Once you've eaten enough apple fritters and French crullers to fuel your journey, continue west on the trail through the beautiful War Memorial Park and across the Narrows Bridge. Soak up the gorgeous views from the bridge as you find yourself hundreds of feet off the water suspended above the Puget Sound.
Once off the other side, the trail continues up the side of the 24th Street on-ramp and ends. If you're looking to finish your time on the trail with one last epic view, head south on Stone Drive to Lucille Parkway, where you'll find the entrance to Narrows Park. Down a short hill through fern-laden forest, Narrows Park offers fantastic views of the bridge from below.
