Description
Trail #457 is a long and rugged trail. Expect many small hills, valleys, and creek crossings. This trail ranges from easy flat dirt singletrack to rocky hill climbs. But it's through some of the most remote wilderness Southern Illinois has to offer. The beauty of Lusk Creek is unmatched anywhere in Illinois; from long calm pools to short small rapids areas... you can't take your eyes off of it. Trail #457 will take you right alongside it for most of its length. You'll see many rock outcroppings, a few shelter caves, and plenty of wildlife on this trail.
Like most of the trails in this area, this was originally laid out for equestrian use; however, foot traffic is welcome too. Trails are fairly well marked at intersections only but don't rely on signage to guide your way. Some signs are missing and there are numerous off-shoots and new user made trails not mapped or marked.
