This trail is within the Indian Heaven Wilderness and the usual federal wilderness area regulations and restrictions apply here: practice Leave No Trace (LNT) backcountry skills and ethics, camp 100 feet from fragile areas, bury human waste at least 200 feet from water, trails, and campsites. This trail is usually closed by snow between November and May. No commercial berry picking is allowed in the Wilderness.

Description

From its junction with the Placid Lake Trail #29, turn right on to the Chenamus Lake Trail #29A. This trail descends past a dry creek to the right (west), and then rises to cross the rocky creek bed. Shortly after crossing the creek and passing a meadow, you reach Chenamus Lake, where there are a few campsites. The #29A continues along the western shore of the lake, with three kinds of huckleberries ripe for the picking in late summer. The south end of the lake is an almost completely enclosed little bay. Expect lots of mosquitos in early summer.

At the end of the official #29A trail, adventurous runners will find an abandoned, but still very usable, trail continuing southeast along the Rush Creek drainage to connect Chenamus Lake with the Pacific Crest Trail. The tread of this old trail is still quite visible but it's not often used mainly because Forest Service maps haven't shown it since 1931.
