Overview
This is an amazing route with plenty of tough climbing and rewarding singletrack. This 30 mile route is nearly 85% singletrack and boasts some great views along the way.
Need to Know
There will be no cups at these four aid stations. Runners must bring their own bottles or hydration packs.
Description
The race starts at the scenic Fish Creek Falls parking lot at the top of Fish Creek Falls Road.
From the start, runners will head up Fish Creek Falls Trail to the first aid station located on the east side of Long Lake. This first section has some of the steepest climbing and will be a steady uphill all the way to the lake.
From the first aid station, runners will continue north on FR#340. This forest service road will continue the climb up to Summit Lake Aid Station. From Summit Lake Aid Station, the course loops back to the south on Trail #1101 (CDT Trail/Wyoming Trail). Here runners will enjoy a great cruise along the Continental Divide.
At the 4-way junction with Fish Creek Falls Trail, turn right to head back to the Long Lake Aid Station and Long Lake. After a short descent on Fish Creek Falls Trail, make a left turn onto
Mountain View.
Runners will then cross
Mountain View, ending up at the summit of Mt. Werner and the Steamboat Ski Area. This is where Aid Station 4 is located. After this, run on
Pete's Wicked Trail,
Cathy's Cutoff,
Sunshine and
Chisholm Trail (dirt road) to finish at the top of the gondola.
After a post-race prize drawing, runners can take the gondola down for free.
