Need to Know
The majority of this trail is snowmobile corridor, but it is still open for running during the summer.
The local snowmobile club is the Washington Snow Riders, Inc. Snowmobile trail maps can be purchased at the Washington General Store along the way to Pillsbury State Park.
Description
Follow the signs and blue blazes. This trail hangs a left off of
Bear Pond Trail and remains fairly level around North Pond (on the left). The trail begins to climb moderately up to the other ponds.
The trail crosses over a few streams and heads past some decent views. The trail climbs steeply, then levels off. Pay close attention here, where the snowmobile trail and running trail split. The snowmobile trail stays left and continues to Sunapee, while the Five Summers Trail turns uphill to the right.
From here, the Five Summers Trail is no longer suitable for snowmobiles. The trail weaves through beech trees to its end at the
Monadnock - Sunapee Greenway. It is well worth it to continue left on the M-S Greenway to Lucia's Lookout. This a nice relaxing area to sit and have lunch (pack it in/ pack it out). From here, the trail gets really steep and rocky. Please watch your footing, especially on ice.
