The trail starts along an old forest road for a short distance then turns left onto a trail marked with red blazes. The trail can be a little difficult to find at the beginning. It descends until you reach a railroad track. Turn left and follow the track for only 50 feet until it turns back into the forest. It then parallels the tracks as it ascends away and at about 2.5 miles you reach the Lenape Ridge. Follow the ridge until you reach the end where the trail meets the Minisink Trail. This is often done as part of a loop with the Minisink Trail.
