Need to Know
It's moderately trafficked and a good early season run.
There's plenty of shade in the valley and cold water as you go in and out of the trees. The first mile is crushed gravel before making it to a well defined dirt trail.
Description
This is an easy trail down an old forest service road. Much of the trail is wide, flat, and meanders along Trout Creek. Vigilante Campground is located at the start of the trailhead. You can complete this as an out and back if you'd like, or you can continue on Beaver Creek - Indian Creek #138. Rock formations with towering walls are located along the entire journey. The trail is easy as an out and back and is good for dogs.
If you are looking for something more difficult and a view from the top of the canyon creek, check out
Hanging Valley Trail #247. Trail #247 will take you to Vigilant Overlook where you'll look down to the canyon floor below you.
Flora & Fauna
Mossy trees and fauna are shaded from the sun along the canyon walls. There was a bald eagle soaring above the trees at the 1st campsite when we visited!
