JBER iSportsman pass, check-in/out required outside of race day.
Overview
This annual race is a fundraiser that funds scholarships for UAA/UAF student athletes. It is typically held the last Thursday of May and will be held this year on May 24, 2018. The race uses an approach to Knoya Peak that is entirely on military land.
Description
The trailhead is accessed from Klutina Drive access point where the access road tees at the
Powerline Pass Trail. Cross over the
Powerline Pass Trail and across the JBER borderline fence east southeast through the woods to a gravel road, Bulldog Trail. The race begins along the Bulldog Trail, and you steadily gain elevation through a wooded hillside up to the
Dome Trail at the 1.5 mile mark and onto the
Knoya Peak Trail after 4 miles.
There are three different tiers based on distance for the uphill-only race:
- Full Monty: 8.5K and 4,300' vertical. Limited to 100 participants. Unless race is shortened due to poor conditions, this will be the AMR Grand Prix points race.
- The Original: 5.6K and 2900' vertical. No limit on number of participants.
- The Happy Trail: 2.5K and 1200' vertical
Winners of the Full Monty reach the finish line in under 60 minutes for men and 70 minutes for women.
