Need to Know
The trail is very crowded by runners and tour groups. For less crowded and more impressive fall viewing, go on a rainy day...
Description
Manoa Falls Trail parking is located at 3739 Manoa Rd, Honolulu, HI 96822.
Follow Manoa Road into Paradise Park. Runners have two choices: 1) Park in the Paradise Park lot for a fee of $5.00 or 2) Park in the lower neighborhood for free. After parking, continue running on the road toward the mountain. You'll see the trailhead kiosk with useful trail information. This trail is shaded by trees for almost the entire trail. Follow the yellow-marked lovely path.
In the beginning, the trail crosses over a footbridge and winds through the amazing rainforest. Take in the breathtaking, panoramic view of the misty green valley as you run uphill. At the end of the trail, you are rewarded with a view of the 100 foot tall Manoa Falls.
Return to the trailhead along the same path, taking time to appreciate the tropical scenery on your way back. Near the kiosk on your right, you'll see Lyon Arboretum, a 194-acre tropical rainforest with exotic plants, flowers, singing birds and a self-guided run. It's worth seeing, and it's free.
Flora & Fauna
Along the trail, look and listen for the white-rumped shama. The shama has a great variety of beautiful songs and often mimics other birds.
