Overview
A great run on an unmarked long distance trail.
Need to Know
At 46 km there is an unguarded train track crossing; make sure it's safe before crossing the tracks. At 156 km, you cross an old air force airbase.
Runner Notes
Elite athletes will be able to complete the course during daylight since it's quite runnable. If you don't count yourself among the elites, make sure you bring a head torch. Most of the course runs through heavily wooded areas so there is little to no artificial or moon light.
Description
This is not a race or event, but an unmarked long distance trail. Originally it was meant to be done on the longest day of the year since some parts are off-limits between dusk and dawn. However, solo runners and small groups are informally allowed to run the entire course. The tracks aren't very technical with some exceptions near Soestduinen.
There are plenty of opportunities to replenish food and water along the course, as you'll be running through/near small towns and hamlets.
Over 90% of this course is trail (singletrack, dirt path, bridle way) with some bike paths and connecting roads in between. Since the course is unmarked, you'll have to rely on GPX navigation or use the
Trail Run Project mobile app to stay on course.
Flora & Fauna
Make sure you bring anti-tick spray and/or tick pliers. Some of the areas you cross are infested with the creatures, especially during spring and summer.
