It will be June before the snow melts off enough to climb this.
Need to Know
This is a confusing turnoff. There is some new signage that should help (pictured). Just past
Upper Palisades Lake, you'll be turning left (west) instead of going straight on the
Waterfall Canyon Trail. There is a third trail,
Dry Canyon, that goes to the SE as well. Another marker that you are close to this turnoff is you'll pass an outhouse on your left. However, the trail itself is well marked.
Runner Notes
Anyone up for hill repeats? :)
You can continue up the ridgeline if you want to reach Palisades Peak to add more miles.
Description
This trail is very steep but so worth it. This climb will test your mettle and your knees. The views of
Upper Palisades Lake Trail and the lake itself are unprecedented. Most people go to the
Waterfall Canyon Trail and miss out on this gem.
The challenge is getting to this trailhead; you have to run in. By this point you have gone about 10 miles. Plan on almost completing a marathon if you want to hit this and head back out on the same day.
Flora & Fauna
Moose, elk, deer, and DOZENS of wildflowers can be found on this trail.
