The Elk Mountain summit has a rewarding, breathtaking panoramic view of Grand County in all directions.

Getting there: 2 miles east of Parshall, take State Road 21 for 14.0 miles; it’s very well-maintained for low-clearance cars. Park on the shoulder and begin the trail starting up the old jeep road.

This would be an arduous task, go for it champion.

The trail surface is an ATV/4x4 accessible road. There are minimal fallen tree obstacles on the trail, and several stream crossings along the way.

This is a seldom-used trail. Biking is possible for the first leg on the multi-use Corral Peak #112.6. It is strictly running only upon turning NE headed toward the mountain summit (35% grade) on the Elk Mountain Trail #111.1.

There are breathtaking view of Grand County at the top above the tree line. Bring a windbreaker as there are cold, choppy winds at the mountain’s peak, dropping the air temperature by 20° on a warm summer day. And somebody, please find my dropped sunglasses!

Many wildflowers. Vultures circling overhead at peak for various dying/dead elk; bones scattered about.
